MALPARTIDA DE PLASENCIA AND THE NATIONAL PARK OF MONFRAGÜE
Malpartida de Plasencia is a town located in the north of Extremadura.The population is located at a crossroads of specific routes for ranchers. The town is the most populated in Monfragüe as well as having one of the biggest municipalities in Extremadura. The village is well known for its handicraft leather and the building trade.
The National Park of Monfragüe is located in the north of Cáceres, between the populations of Plasencia, Trujillo and Navalmoral de la Mata. The park is crossed by two rivers, the Tajo and the Tietar. It has almost 18 thousands hectares of forest, mediterranean scrub and meadow. In 1979 it was declared a natural park, in 1988 was declared ZEPA ( Zona de Especial Protección de Aves, a special zone to protect the birds) and in Julia 2003 was declared Worldwide Biosphere Reserve by the Unesco. All of these made that in 2007 the forest was included in the Network of National Parks of Spain. More than 300,000 people visit the park every year. Among the most popular species are the black vulture, the griffon and the egyption vulture. For all these reasons Monfragüe is one of the best points for the ornithological tourism in Monfragüe. We must also highlight that it is a very good point to enjoy the stars.
We have a privileged location, because just a few minutes apart we can find some beautiful places such as Valle del Jerte, La Vera, El Ambroz and other villages like Plasencia, Coria, Cáceres, Trujillo or Guadalupe. ASTRONOMIC OBSERVATORY OF MONFRAGÜE
Our zone has been considered one of the best areas of Europe to observe the stars because our sky is one of the cleanest when talking about light pollution.
It is located in the village of Torrejon el Rubio about 40km from Casa Rural el Rincón de Monfragüe.
In order to visit it, you have to get in touch with the tourism office of Torrejon el Rubio.

If we continue going up, we will find Granadilla, a small city founded by Muslims in the IX century. In 1980 was declared a Historical Complex and after that was included in the Program for the Recovery of Abandoned Towns.
Furthermore, we will be immersed in the Jewish culture, and we are going to walk through the streets of Hervás, known for its Jewish neighborhood which was declared a Historical Complex.
Last but not least, you can also enjoy some rest time inside a roman spa in Baños de Montemayor.
LAS HURDES
In this region of the North of Extremadura you will be able to walk and admire the hamlet (alquerías) by this term are known the small villages located in this area with buildings with lots of black slate and rocks.

The reservoir of Arrocampo is almost an obligatory spot for the bird lovers. It is located in Saucedilla very near to the National Park of Monfragüe. The best season to visit this ZEPA is during winter because lots of species stay there during the winter. Among the parties stand out the carnivals of Navalmoral de la Mata and Campo Arañuelo which are declared Festival of Regional Tourist Interest.
Finally, we have to highlight the the colonnade of the Roman temple of Augustóbriga, the remains of the town of Talavera la Vieja or the medieval castle of Belvís de Monroy
